Description
Clunes is a small town in Victoria, Australia and is 36km north or Ballarat. The Clunes Town Hall is also used as a Court House and was designed by Percy Oakden and constructed by William Cowland in 1872-1873. Home to the Djadja Wurrung people, the discovery of gold in 1851 heralded the official beginning of the gold rush in Victoria, and Clunes soon became the fifth largest town in the colony. The Clunes Town Hall was opened in May 1873 as a symbol of the grandeur and success the town had achieved. Today the hall remains a grand building with many original period features intact.
