Description
The Malmsbury Viaduct is a historic railway bridge located in the State of Victoria, Australia. It was built in the mid-19th century, between 1856 and 1860, and spans the Coliban River near the town of Malmsbury. The viaduct is an impressive feat of engineering, consisting of five tall sandstone piers, each of which are approximately 20 metres high, and six wrought-iron lattice girder spans, with a total length of 307 metres. At the time of its construction, it was the largest bridge in Victoria and one of the largest in the world. Today the Malmsbury Viaduct is considered a significant heritage site and a remarkable example of 19th century railway engineering. It is still in use, carrying trains along the Bendigo line, and is a popular attraction for railway enthusiasts and tourists visiting the area.
